Is there something wrong with this site questions are really old on here?

First of all, can you check which tab you are on. Just above the questions there are 3 or 4 tabs

In Voting

Resolved

.... and for some there is a new tab "Recommended"

If you have the Recommended tab on then change it to "Open". Recommended shows you questions which have been selected as being ones which you may find interesting depending on your history of answering.

If this is not the reason then also check (on the Open tab) that your questions are sorted by "Newest"

Hopefully this will help you get back to a category with the newest questions.

There is nothing wrong wit this site. Yahoo is trying to crate a knowledge database, so it does not matter some of the questions are seven years old. YA started on January 28, 2005, so it's not surprising that there are some old questions still on the main display. YA ID NOT A CHAT FORUM. YA is a knowledge exchange forum with strict question answer format. If you want to join an email chat forum, you can, but you have to sign up with them, just like you signed up to participate on YA.

Yahoo have been updating the site and i am experiencing difficulties sometimes everything just dissappears

Check thar you have it set for Latest Questions at the top of the list
