When can I get Top Contributor back?
Basically, here's what happened. So I joined Yahoo Answers February of this year, and became Top Contributor a month later. Then, two or three months after that, I was suspended (on my second violation) for posting something that mentioned hackintosh (which isn't illegal, by the way).
So I got really pissed off, tried to appeal, but nothing happened. I ended up deleting that account, which was at Level 5 with over 5000 points and 1,000+ answers.
I made a new one, and reached top contributor again within a month. Then I went on vacation for a month, and when I came back, I wasn't top contributor anymore! Then I started going on Answers again, and reached Level 5 AGAIN, but still no top contributor! WHY?

According to Y!A : "A "Top Contributor" is a member of the Yahoo Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a certain category. Each user can be a top contributor in a maximum three categories. You earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a certain section. The more positively you contribute, the more chance there is that you will get a TC badge. Just like featured users or category leaders, it's another way to give credit to community members."
Y!A has never said what the precise requirements are. It's commonly accepted that you need to answer a lot of questions (50?, 100?, who knows...) in a category and get Best Answers on a certain percent of them (probably 10-15%) each week.
You can have TC badges in up to 3 categories at a time. There is no TC badge for the Jokes & Riddles and Polls & Surveys categories.
TC badges are based on your recent activity, not your level or total points, how long you've been here or your overall BA They are awarded weekly - late on Sunday night.

The TC badge is a measure of recent participation on YA. Badges come and go with each new Monday. Yahoo keeps the formula secret (so they can change it if needed). The best guess based on experience of long time users is that you need:
200 or more total points per week
30-50 answers per week in a single category
20 or more BAs in the category within the last 3 weeks (10-15% most people think)
If your level of participation falls below the target levels, you lose your badge. Then you have to earn it back. There are no TC badges for the P&S and Jokes categories.

The Top Contributor badge can be earned weekly it's a matter of sticking to a specificity in a category in which you have a lot of knowledge and can produce best answers.
100 or more total points per week and at least 30 from best answers
30+ answers per week in the same category
The exact formula has not been presented but I do know for a fact I have become a Top Contributor from the results above. -Ronnie

Top contributor badges are rewards for lots of RECENT participation. You just need to answer a lot of questions in particular subsection of YA for three or four weeks, then wait for the computer system to calculate the statistics for that particular sub-section of YA, which happens every three to four weeks if things are running normally, and once you answer enough questions, you will get your Top contributor badge back. Your percentage of best answers may be be included or contribute partially to the calculations, but I suspect not. Any one who insists that you have to a 10)5 or higher percentage in best answers probably doesn't understand how statistics are calculated. There is NO "SECRET" FORMULA. The calculations are all done by computer programs, not by Yahoo staff. My more than three year old YA account was suspended on February 3, 2012 at 10:03 am PST. I created this account on February 14, and I had my Top Contibutor badge in Astronomy & Space in four weeks. I've recently been offline for almost three weeks, so I am going to have to earn my Astronomy & Space and Higher Education university top contributor badges back. It's a reward for RECENT participation in the last three to four weeks.

The Top Contributor status is based on a high percent and number of best answers in a specific category over a short period of time. The exact qualifications are kept secret.
