"Indonesia and Malaysia prove that Islam was spread by peaceful word of mouth, and not through force."

Islam was spread by both. An example of spreading peacefully doesn't mitigate that violent spreading happened too. This is basic logical dissection.

To asker - my guess is YA isn't the way to get an accurate answer on this.

According to wiki's reference to "The History of Indonesia" , it's not a well understood or recorded event:

"Despite being one of the most significant developments in Indonesian history, historical evidence is fragmentary and generally uninformative such that understandings of the coming of Islam to Indonesia are limited; there is considerable debate amongst scholars about what conclusions can be drawn about the conversion of Indonesian peoples."

This site ascribes it to trade, politics, diplomacy & war. It lists specific info in each that could be researched, & is much better detail than the wiki article:

This is on the spread of Sharia in Indonesia in modern times:

By word of mouth and the locals loved and accepted it. Indonesia and Malaysia prove that Islam was spread by peaceful word of mouth, and not through force.

from Champa (Kambojea) by propagation and preaching.

some islamic clerics met kings in indonesian islands. and amazingly almost all kings converted to islam, and left their animism, hindu and Buddha faith.

there are many hindu and budha temples in indonesia. without a single hindu around the temple. because their kings were muslim.
