Has anyone ever taken the Auto Train to Florida...?

...the Auto Train goes from Lorton, VA (Wash DC) to Sanford, FL (Orlando), you take your car on the train, overnight (17 hours)...

This sounds interesting but before I book, I just was wondering if anyone has ever traveled on it.

Thanks.....

    Good morning,

I have done it many times. the fares are based on your travel time. IE with in the next 1-2 months the fares are higher south bound then north bound. the reason behind that is the influx of snow birds migrating south for the winter. I have done the sleeper car and coach and was comfortable both ways. your fare does include a full dinner. sleeper car gets an upgraded menu choice. enjoy your trip

First-class query . I have been the first a couple of occasions . Once whilst using with a pal we saw a horrible accident occur within the intersection where we had been ready for a crimson mild to vary . I jumped out and instantly determined one driver in unconcious convulsions and instantly rendered what support I might . The girl driver was once unconcious however had a baby in the backseat screaming and a buddy within the passenger seat in a state of concern . I knew there were many many different persons on that nook but I out of the blue realized that I was once the one one rendering support . I appeared as much as see about 15 persons simply gazing. . . I could not consider it . I yelled for them to call 911 and asked if any have been doctors or nurses . No one responded !! I calmed down the passenger and the child(now not entirely however the best I could) and EMT's arrived very swiftly because the Firehouse and Police station was simplest 4 blocks away . Probably 5 minutes at most . My buddy and that i acquired again in our automobile and drove on . It was once then i realized that my pal did not support either . He instructed me he was once method too anxious(not a nervous or squemish guy) and did not understand how I remained calm . I had navy training and then understood for the first time ever that some humans panic and cannot believe in an emergency . I know my buddy and comprehend he's a best guy , however that day was the primary time I understood that some persons simply can't react when there may be concern .

No, but I have heard mixed reviews from people who have taken it, just the other day someone highly recommended it, but when I went on line, the price was double what he claimed he paid for a round trip; and last year 2 ladies took it down and back and told me never to take it and they won't go to FL any other way than fly anymore.

My logic is that I have my own car when I get there to cut out the cost of a rental, and if I drove all the way I save 2000 miles (round trip) and 2 nights hotels coming and going, and don't have to worry about the weather. The only downside I can see is the 5 hour drive to get the train and the 5 hour drive to come home on the return leg.

My family never took the auto train before and took it a couple of years ago to see me, they didn't sleep, were nervous wrecks, and got real sick so were very happy to return home by air. They said there were lots of people on there that came down from Canada to Florida and said they'd done that many times. So I guess one gets used to doing it if it's the only way to go.
