Can I receive extra scholarship for college because my mom is a foreigner?
My mom is from Hungary originally. She immigrated to the U.S. in the 80s and is now a citizen. I know colleges typically give out extra scholarship or accept students if they are a minority. I was just wondering if this qualifies me as a minority. My skin color is white so I'm not quite sure. Thanks!

There are some scholarships with a requirement for application for the applicant to be of Hungarian descent/ancestry.
However, a number of them are for specific colleges/universities.
You can see a list of some of them here:
* http://www.collegescholarships.org/scholarships/hu...
If you live in an area with an organization for people of Hungarian ancestry, that group may offer a scholarship. You will have to do the research to determine if there are any such organizations in your area. A reference librarian at the local public library can help you with that research. Also, if you are still a high school student, a HS counselor should know of some scholarships offered by local organizations.
This web page has a list of some Hungarian heritage organizations in various locations in the US:
* http://www.hacusa.org/en/member-organizations
There may (or may not) be scholarships for which you qualify offered by the college/university you plan on attending. Many colleges/universities* have scholarship/grant funds (funds that do not need to be repaid) for just their own students. Staff members of the colleges/universities may need the info from your completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid - http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ ) or may need a completed CSS Profile (from the College Board – https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/index.j... ) to determine if you will be awarded any scholarships/grants. Look for info about them on the schools' Financial Aid web pages.
*By colleges/universities I mean: local taxing district funded community colleges, state government funded colleges & universities, & private/independent non-profit colleges/universities (not to be confused with for-profit/career/proprietary colleges, which 1st & foremost are businesses with the main focus of earning profits for their shareholders.)
You can also look for scholarships for which you may qualify by using one of the good online databases. I recommend the following:
Scholarship Search from the well-respected College Board:
* https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-sea...
Click on the Start button.
If you choose to register (free – registration is not required) to return later & modify your search strategy, feel secure you will not receive spam emails. Don't select too many defining terms in your search strategy, which may result in a poor scholarship search result.
CollegeNet Mach25 Scholarship Search database:
* http://www.collegenet.com/mach25/app
No registration required. If you use the Profile Search option, don't include a large number of Misc. identifiers or you may have an unsuccessful search result. The Keyword Search is the easiest. Scholarships specific to particular colleges/universities are included in the Mach25 database.
With the results of the scholarship search databases you will have to look at each scholarship option in the results & the info on the scholarship granting organization web pages to determine if you qualify to apply.
Plus, visit your local public library and ask a reference librarian to help you find these books to check out and learn more ways to help find your college/univ. education:
