I need help with my chemistry on ph.?
Serine exists in its zwitterion form at a pH of 5.7. Draw the structural formula for the same. Explain the manner in which the structural formula of polar and non-polar amino acids would vary.
Help would be great I don't know how to answer it or even what to put.

Never really gone over amino acids and stuff but I've done chem 1 and chem 2 and now I'm in orgo. I just searched up what zwitterion means and it's basically a location in the molecule where a charge exists.
This is the structure for serine http://0.tqn.com/d/chemistry/1/0/7/P/1/serine.jpg I'm pretty sure that the zwitterion structure would be the transfer of the right hydrogen (in the hydroxyl group) to the bottom NH2 (amine) so it would then be NH3. So basically you will have one oxygen after you've taken away the hydrogen and 3 hydrogen on the nitrogen after you added the hydrogen you took away from the oxygen. I don't how much you know about chemistry but do you know what formal charge is? Oxygen needs two bonds to be happy (lol that's how my professors say it) and it was happy when it was connected to the carbon and hydrogen but once you broke off the hydrogen it lost a bond so it now has a formal charge of -1. Nitrogen needs three bonds to be happy but since you added one hydrogen to it it now has 4 bonds thus giving it a charge of +1. See what the pattern?
And for the explanation look at this website. Look at the last paragraph...

Oh and there is a resonance structure. You can take the hydrogen away from the oxygen on the right or left.
If you need any more help just let me know. I'd be glad to help.
