a sound wave traveling in water at 1440 m/s has a wavelength of 0.5m. Determine the frequency of the wave.

    Imagine a balls of diameter 0·5 metre speeding past in a continuous stream, in contact, like railway carriages. They speed past at 1440 metres/second. Each ball then takes 0·5/1440 of a second to pass a point by the trackside. That is the time in seconds for one cycle. The number of cycles per second is 1440/0·5 or 2880 cycles/second.
