When are we going to see flying cars being made?

Seriously world. Why haven't any of you started developing flying cars? There's two of them and they both suck.

If you think there will ever be a day where people live like the Jetsons, you are mistaken. At least not in your or my lifetime. People get in car crashes every day - if you do that in the air you'll most likely die.

Roadable aircraft, like the Terrafugia, will be successful I think, and they'll improve (ie become better on the road) as they do succeed, but you'll always need to have a pilots license and use airports to take off/land.

Some time go rent a hoover craft, and you will see why the type of cars you envision are ill advised.

Then there is the fuel issue, the amount of fuel that is needed to produce flight is a very large amount of total fuel used in a trip. The shorter the trip, the worse the percentage.

The last issue is the driver, most drivers can not think clearly on a plain, dodging then in 3D space would be very difficult. Many can not handle a four way stop and some do not talk good enough english to communicate with flight control.

So not only is the technology for such vehicles not there, neither is the state of human evolution.

The one redeeming prospect of this idea is that maybe it would deplete the gene pool of some idiots.
