Violence in media causing violence in real life is stemmed from psychology showing that humans can learn through observational learning. This means we learn from seeing our surroundings and how other humans behave.
Why do conservatives specifically believe it? Because conservatives are more likely to have certain values that allow them to see a cause and specifically dictate that the cause is influencing people
Where liberals are brought up to want options and see that their are exceptions to rules, and we have to develop ideas to fit these "exceptions".
It's all about which values belong to which groups of people.
