I'm close to 40, in decent shape, well employed, intelligent, somewhat funny, all that good stuff, just socially inept. Any suggestions on how to get a date? I know it sounds desperate to ask, I'm not really, but the only way to learn is to ask.

There are so many ways these days. You can go on an online dating site, it's no longer taboo and you will be surprised the type of women on there. There are single events in your area like speed dating and parties. You can go to a fairly nice restaurant at happy hour to meet people, they all have happy hour specials now. That well employed part of your description will be very attractive to most women.
