Overfilled Transmission Fluid On 1999 Chevy Blazer What Could Happen?

Okay not to long ago we got a 1999 Chevy Blazer which it has had mysterious problems with starting and stuff so I've decided to replace the fuel pump, spark plug and wires, and a few other things. In the process I have done the following to try and fix the problem air filter, oil & filter (7 quarts I know overfilled, but got leaking hoses helping with that), battery, thermostat, 4 things of fuel treatment, fuel filter, bulbs, and fuel pressure sensor. Well my friend told me I need to burn as much gas as I can so he could drop the tank for the fuel pump replacement so I went cross country and got it near empty well in the process the Service Engine light comes on so I go get it checked and found out I had transmission slippage a code of P1870. Well I already put 4 quarts transmission fluid in when I got it so I figured I would put 4 more in to see if it fixed the problem well it overfilled it and cause 1 quart to 1 quart and a half to come pouring out of a pan under my car then after that it quit. Well I decided to drive it like that to check to see if things were okay and it started smoking where the excess fluid was still running out some on to hot parts like the muffler and stuff. It's getting better, but with it overfilled am I okay? Shifting has become better and no more Service Engine light!? My friend says normally a transmission can hold 12 quarts. So am okay???? He works on cars for a living and has done alot of repairs for us on stuff.

If you have checked the ATF level and are a quart over, the ATF will foam or bubble and that's no good for a hydraulic system! It will cause slippage and ruin the tranny. Nice going numbnuts! Set the ATF level according to manufacturers recommendations immediately. All you folks out there seem to think you can play mechanic and not have a problem while the truth is you are going to have better luck playing Dentist!!!

Try to save a buck changing ATF yourself and now it's an $1800 plus job!

o.k over filled. fluid expands when hot and has to go somewhere. all automatics have a breather on them it will either come out the breather or worse blow out the front seal depending on how much its over filled. so have to get that to correct level. as for the 1870 code that means rebuilt something burnt in the transmission no fluid/filter change is going to repair this problem. and nothing to adjust. find local shop at ATRA.COM to help

who ever this friend is doesnt know vehicles. Yea, it may normally hold 12 quarts of fluid if you completely overhauled the transmission. If it is overfilled, like above said, it will cause foam to form & foam is bad in a transmission, it will cause it to slip !!!!!!!!! Why is it leaking???? Where is it leaking????

you can drain some by disconnecting trans line at radiator and running engine for a few seconds .mixing dextron 111 mineral oil ,,with dextron V1 synthetic ,will cause serious problems ,complete flush is needed right away ,,
