You can purchase the game directly through ArenaNet at www.guildwars2.com. The download of the game does resume where you left off. As far as being highly compressed, it is what it is. As others have stated, sometimes the amount of folks using the internet in your area at the same time can slow you down. Some ideas to download it less painfully are as follows:

1. Make sure you are not doing anything else on your connection. Browsing, Movies...nothing else. If this is not possible, try . . .

2. Set it up to start downloading just before you go to sleep for the evening. By the morning, it should be just about done if it isn't completed.

I do feel for you. My laptop I downloaded onto while at work, and it took me a few days of starting and stopping, while my home connection took off and was done in a couple of hours. Just remember that the download percentage also resets when you resume and does not count what you already have downloaded.
