Right size horse for me for competing?

I would love to go to some shows for both basic English and Western riding. I'm 5'8, 150lbs and built very strong. What size of horse would be suitable? I have a 15hh small built little mare and with her I am right at (with my heavy western saddle) her 20% mark but my feet hang a little below her belly, and as a result everyone thinks I am too big to show her in the English classes and do well. To do well how large of a horse do I need?

I try to stay under 15% if I can :)

I'm almost 5'7" and about 128lbs. (Muscle believe it or not, lol)

My guy is a 16.1 Dutch Warmblood x Connemara, everyone says we look fanstastic together.

I suggest 16.3ish if you can? English riders like their horses to be tall compaired to the rider. So, the bigger the better lol.

15hh may be a little small, but I'm not judging your situation. Only my past experience.

    Good luck competing!!

  • You should get a 16h Horse! I am like an inch shorter than you. but i weigh the same and everything. And i ride a quorter horse that is like 16 hands. IT feels so awesome to be on a big horse! :D I hope this helped! :)
