Microsoft wireless mouse not working, but wireless keyboard is?

When I use a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 2000 keyboard and mouse set, after several hours of use, the wireless mouse stops working, even when it's switched on with the red light. However the wireless keyboard works fine. This is very unusual, but when I restarted my computer the mouse starts working again.

Update:

Even changing the mouse batteries didn't help either, and I have no choice but to restart my computer.

You may need to change out the battery. Check the bottom or back side of the mouse for the battery. It's usually a AA or AAA single battery.

Have you tried clicking the mouse after it stops, some mice will sleep if you don't use them for a while like mine and I just have to click it for it to work.
