Driveway finishes, which is best & why?

I'm planning on putting in a drive next year, but I cannot pick a finish.

Not keen on concrete, looks cheap.

Patterned concrete I've been told can be very slippery when wet.

Chippings just spread everywhere & cause a mess.

Blocks need lots of maintenance as to cleaning weeds/moss & regular sealing.

Its got to be strong enough for a heavy transit van & 1 car, so maybe not tarmac.

Any ideas would be grateful!

Thanks.

Well I have had tarmac, concrete, gravel and block paving.

My favourite would be concrete or gravel.

Tarmac just fades and looks rubbish after a couple of years. concrete you can just jet wash off and make it look like new again. Block paving just gets uneven after a time no matter how it's installed.

If you do go with gravel get 20mm stones not pea gravel, then it does not get spread around at all.

Hi Well I have two large vans and a long drive way, I laid 3x2 granite slabs in 1990 that's 22 years ago ,I just power wash them once a year and the clean up like new, concrete cracks, tarmac will not last. The old granite slabs will last for many years, you can buy them new or second hand, lay them properly and they will not move or crack.

    Cheers

as answer no1 says ..you have ruled out most ....our roads are tarmac ...does your transit weigh more than 32 tonnes ? thought not ..whats on my drive ? RED TARMAC ...mmmmmmmmm lovely ..and its been down nearly 20 years ...as for gravel ..of any type ..im a builder ...and have NEVER seen a gravel drive that does not spread every where ...and they are very noisy

It's no wonder you don't know you've pretty much ruled out everything
