You can reface your cabinets.That way you do not need all new cabinets.

Rather that buy new ones, either replace just the doors, or if your cabinets are really junk, look on Craig's List for some that up for grabs. You can also ask a local carpenter - they are great at looking up some of these recycled cabinets - that often are good quality, just not what a new homeowner wants.
And sometimes the guys who put in the new ones also get the old ones on the way out - they can't use more than one or two sets themselves, so you might find a carpenter can find you some solid cabinets that need a new home. Don't forget to also check your local ReStore, run by Habitat for Humanity.
