Blanch it first (in boiling water), then cool and freeze.
If you don't do this the leaves will wilt an become untasty when defrosted.

Why, when a chilled cabbage will last for months? Stick it in the fridge for now, then move it to the garage when it gets cold. A covered cabbage can survive heavy frost, but frozen solid they lose a bit.
That said, if you must wrap it tight to cut down freezer burn and make sure it isn't damp.

Here's a step by step instruction!
Follow along and stop to take notes every once in a while.
1) Take the cabbage.
2) Put it in the freezer.

I chop it ready to cook & freeze it in plastic bags.

If it's wrapped from the store, I just put it in the freezer as is.
