How much of you is just you?
I feel like I only was able to choose my music, clothing, and food tastes, but then the rest of me is just a regurgitation of my parents. Do we really get our personalities and our character traits from our parents? Are our brains literally wired the same, or is it just growing up with them has made us mimic them? Is there any hope that I could develop my own personality? With my own character traits? Is that possible? Am I just hoping? I'd like professional opinions, but I'll take you guy's opinions too. :)
Thank you in advance.
I'm sorry I put it into the wrong category, maybe I will repost it in another section, but thank you for your answers

Nobody knows. To find out, you'd have to take 5,000 babies and switch them at birth, then see how they grew up. You'd need 2,500 babies whose parents were trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent, and 2,500 babies whose parents were not. Both sets of parents would object, so the experiment has never been done.

Because you are asking for a "Professional" opinion, I suggest that you resubmit your question to perhaps the Psychological category. Genealogy is the study of direct ancestral lineage within biological families. It really has nothing to do with your question. However, I have known several families that seen to have personalities that are inherited one generation after another and some times it seems to be from say a great uncle to a 5 year old little boy, who seems to have a great deal of insight, or no inhibitions or some other quirkie thing that this great uncle had. A Nephew of mine who never knew one if his great uncle, is just like him right down to the voice and it is spookie.

Your question is nothing to do with this category...genealogy is about researching dead ancestors...not about genes, personality or behaviour.............
Behaviour is learned...practised....repeated......... from parents, grand-parents and the enviroment around us, so what social experiences we have will develop our personality, our confidence......... human beings are lazy we copy and continue the same behaviour even if it doesn't really work for us........... it is hard to change, the younger you are the easier it is..... if you decided to do it
