Cook them unlit they become lumpy, but fresh or frozen are better I believe

Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which are first soaked overnight in water and then simmered with a little sugar and salt until they form a thick green lumpy soup.

What kind of peas? If you have soaked green or yellow dry split peas, get them out of the water right away and drain them. Put them into the pot with the ham bone and water. Add the spices you like in split pea soup.

It isn't necessary to soak dry split peas overnight, so it's hard to know what you will actually have when you are done.

It's always amazing that people don't google for a recipe BEFORE they start cooking a dish.

If you are trying to make English Pea Puree, you are going about it all wrong.
