Charley horses happen when the muscles are tight to begin with. To get rid of a charley horse, which will keep them from happening again you have to release the tightness out of the muscle that is causing it to happen in the first place and here's how to do that release:
For the thigh have her sit on a chair, a smaller one for her if possible, and press into her thigh muscle and hold a firm but gentle pressure on it for 30 seconds. have her take a deep breath and exhale to relax her body. At the end of the 30 seconds have her slowly slide her foot forward until it's resting almost straight,, then release the pressure but have her continue holding the leg extended for another 30 seconds.
For her calf muscle press into the middle of the muscle and hold the pressure on it. Again have her relax by taking a deep breath and exhaling. After the 30 seconds have her lift the front of her foot up as high as she can, then release the pressure but have her continue holding it up for another 30 seconds.
One other thing that works is pressing into the charley horse itself. The pain should stop right away and the muscle will release about 10 seconds later. While this works nice it can still leave the muscle in a position where the charlie horses can happen again where the other releases they won't happen again.
