How long does it take to replace a single tire?
The other morning I found a nail in my tire and made an appointment with the dealership to bring it in to get fixed. It ended up being too close to the sidewall to be patched, so they put my spare on my car and made another appointment for 3 days later to put on a new tire. AFAIK, it wasn't a stock issue; they were just too busy to put on a new tire (even though I had an appointment.)
How long does it take to put on a single tire? I wouldn't think it would be that much longer than putting on the spare, or am I wrong?
Thanks for the responses. Just to clarify, I shopped around for tires last time my car needed a new set, and the dealership had the best price. Conventional logic says that the dealership is always more expensive, but that simply wasn't the case this time. My tires are still under warranty, which is why I went back to the dealership when I found the nail in my tire instead of a tire store. It sounds like maybe I was a lower priority because it was a warranty repair and they weren't making any money off me.

To take a tire off a wheel and put a new one on takes about 10 min. Balancing another 10. Add 5 for taking it off/on the car, 25 min. They already had the tire off the wheel when they determined it was too close to the side wall to patch.
You should have let them keep the bad tire and picked it up the next day. I would go somewhere else... like a tire store. They have 8 guys doing tires and 2 guys doing other stuff instead of the other way around. It might not be too close to the side wall for them to fix it either.

if they had a new tire in stock, it may have even been faster to remount a new tire than it was to dig out your spare tire.
Sounds like you were not a priority to them on that day, and I would raise a stink with them when you go back about having to take time out AGAIN to get this remedied.
Either that, or I'd just start going somewhere else for my car repair needs.

Yeah, about 10 minutes or so, once they have the vehicle in the work bay. And as suggested, never ever go to a dealership for tires, they will mark up the price drastically.

you are wrong. here is why, your spare tire is already mounted to the rim Right?
Now try to understand this...
The old tire and rim will have to be separated, (that takes time) the new tire will have to be mounted, air up, balanced, and then mounted back on your car.
NNOW you can see the difference right?

Shouldn't be any more than 15-20 minutes once they get the tire off. Tire off, tire machine takes tire off the rim, machine puts new tire on, balance it, reinstall on car.

You went to the dealer? Dumb move. Any Tire store could have pro rated the tire and changed it in one quick visit. No one goes to the dealer for a tire. No one!
