Chugging sound when I brake?

I noticed about 3 days ago my car has been making a chugging sound when I brake. It sounds like its coming from my left front tire. This morning my ABS light came on the when off when I turned my car on 4 hours later. Tonight I noticed kind of a clinking sound when I brake. It seems light its coming from my left front tire. I am honestly kind of scared to drive my car. I have 2004 gold 4 door chevy cavalier it has about 83,000 miles on it. What should I do? What could it be? Im going to take it to Meineke tomorrow. Please help me!? I need all the information I can get!

sounds like your brake pads are almost metal to metal, around a couple hundred bucks worth, but who know's at Meineke,a lot of my family has worked at those places ,so be aware of price goudging.,,,,,,,,,,

Have you ever had a brake job? It sounds like your pads are worn to much on that side that they also warped the rotor. I don't know exactly what chugging noise is, but if you mean like "whump whump whump"

WHat could have caused this is a frozen caliper - basically it keeps the brake applied to that rotor on that wheel, and the rotor heats up. If that's the case, you will need a new caliper, pads, rotors on the front. Bleed teh whole system as the fluid gets water in it, and causes these problems in the first place.

It also could be a bad hub, which has the ABS sensor built in. If that is the case, the wheel will have some slop (play) that they tech can show you by gripping the tire with the weight off the tires. Hubs on GM and other cars can go bad about that mileage. Hubs are just a bit more work than rotors, but cost for one is about $140 w/o labor. I'm not a huge Mineke fan, if you know a local shop I'd try that. ask around.

Well gee, let's see. You apply the brakes and a chugging sound occurs. Do you think you might need to have the brakes serviced? Have you ever had them serviced before? They aren't "lifetime" brakes you know...you have to perform maintenance on cars. It sounds like you've let it go to the point now that likely you will need additional repairs beyond simply replacing the brake pads. Expect to pay at least $300 to get them fixed.
