What's a really great idea for a short story!?
My uni/college is having their annual submission of 'short story, creative non-fiction, poetry, travel, screenplay, etc' and I really want to submit something. I'm a pretty good descriptive writer but my lack of creativity will make this a hard task. I'm studying to become an editor so it'd also be good in my CV.
Any ideas on what people find interesting these days?
I'd prefer to do a short story, but any suggestions would be great!

Short story:
Characters - Toby (9yr old student)
Arthur (47 yr old man)
Sandy (19 yr old sister of Toby)
Mr. Grayson (78 yr old crossing guard)
Story: Toby is in a RUSH because he's late for school. The crossing guard is half way across the
street, returning home. Toby runs by the guard as a car is going by. Mr Grayson (the crossing guard) sees Toby but can't stop him. It's too late.
Or so we thought. Just then a middle add man come out of of nowhere and snatches the boy and saves him within a whisker's breathe. Toby has the wind knocked out of him, but quickly recovers and clutches this savior, that somehow feels familiar to him.
All Mr. Grayson can do is stare in disbelief! "How?!" Then he says, stuttering,"A-Arthur....is that r-really you?"
