Does a literary agent have to live near you in order to represent you?

No. You want one who lives (or at least works) near the offices of the major publishers in whichever country you hope to be published. The business you need to conduct with him can be done by letter, phone and email. He needs to be near the major publishers so that he can schmooze the editors over lunch or after-work drinks.

It doesn't matter where you reside. If an agent thinks your publication will also be bought they will take you on, easy as that. Except it's not simple. You could have been declined for the reason that the sellers you have got written to do not believe that your work is marketable. Take into account, they only make cash in the event that they promote it to a publisher, so they're relatively, really picky about things. Sincerely in case your enquiry, pitch and manuscript usually are not without doubt ideal, you have no threat of it even being looked at. Also, an 8 publication sequence is quite going to position them off; even with an agent a writer is going to be reluctant to sign off on a sequence in case it flops. You need to be offering the primary guide, and most effective the first ebook, and it should be in a position to be read as a standalone novel, with probably the capabilities of progress into a sequence. Omit publishing companies, with out an agent you are losing your, and their, time. Preserve making an attempt with the marketers, and make certain you're sending it to people who symbolize the genre, and that your enquiry follows their instructions to the letter.

No, not in the past and now with things such as GoToMeeting (I really like using this) and Skype most business can be conducted over the phone or computer.
