I am in a grocery slump and would like some new ingredients to consider?

What are your fav things to keep in the house? Versatile, cheap, easy to use? Anything new that I need to try? Any indispensibles?

Keep in mind, I live alone and while cooking isn't a super high priority, I don't live on canned soup and hot pockets either. I know how to cook, and I enjoy it from time to time, although most times, I do like things to be fast...and I do like healthy!

I eat meat daily but honestly it is not the primary element of any meal for me. love veggies, soups, salads, breads, and cheeses. I do not enjoy seafood or fish much at all.

Thanks for any help!

I've got one that will knock your socks off. Taiwan Fermented Bean Curd. Comes in chili flavor and plain. Plain is a little stronger. This stuff has a very strong flavor whcih at first smells like garbage but soon becomes addictive. You can eat the blandest vegetable with a bit of this. I often eat steamed cauliflower and eggplant chunks --plus a cube of this.

We always have (or try to always have): a variety of soups, including some "cream of" soups for meals, ingredients for chili, chicken breasts, spinach, mushrooms, onions, noodles, sauce for pasta, bread, cheeses- usually some shredded cheddar, mozzarella, and goat cheese (my fave), ground beef or buffalo, tortilla shells, sour cream, salsa, brown rice, frozen veggies in case we run out of fresh, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, tuna, lemon juice, whatever fruit is in season, stuffing, eggs and butter. With these ingredients we have a ton of options every night.

For spices- garlic- minced and powder, onion powder, cumin, salt & pepper of course, minced onion, paprika, cinnamon, sugar, cayenne, crushed red pepper, lemon pepper, and Cajun seasoning.
