Hi I'm new, how does this place work?

I just joined, does anyone have any tips or tricks?

Update:

Yup - I even accidentally posted that in Computers! I'm learning by answering some questions, it's fun! Thanks for the narrative, very informative.

Basically, you ask a question and then you hope, someone knows the answer.

You asked THIS question in the "Computers" area, so it would probably be a good idea to ask about stuff that relates to computers: Geeks aren't really qualified to tell you what to do about your boyfriend or athlete's foo ... etc. The more precise your question, the better the answers. Asking "my computer is f***d - help me" does not give enough information. On the other hand, if you describe what you did and quote the exact text of your error message, someone may be able to help you resolve your problem. (If someone does give you a useful answer, the polite thing to do is, to acknowledge the answer and tell others the answer was useful)

Do I have any tips or tricks? Sure!: "Don't eat any yellow snow!" (See what I mean by "being precise with your questions"?)
