Should NASCAR have a zero policy on concussions?

Junior is sitting out the next two races because of a concussion. It is reported as a decision between him and his doctor. Do you feel that that NASCAR should automatically sit a driver who has suffered a concussion until he is cleared medically for his safety and the drivers that he his racing against or should it be a decision between the driver and his own doctor?

The sad thing is, there is more and more data now,

suggesting that multiple concussions are VERY dangerous.

They manifest themselves later on in life.

You absolutely hate to see an athlete cut his carreer short,

but one has to think about the consequences later on.

These things have been the cause of many professional athletes

having serious issues, that have led to depression,

    and even suicide.

    The latest being Junior Seau...

I hope the best for Junior, I just hope he gets, and heeds

    whatever the professionals tell him.

    Whatever the options may be.

  • we have become more aware of concussions then we used to, now we know concussions do long term damage. and i think the brain damage found in Chris Benoit's brain after he killed his wife and son and committed suicide back in 2007 has change sports forever, not just pro wrestling, which was the sport (well it's more of less a show then an actual sport but the injuries suffer are real sometimes in pro wrestling) that Chris Benoit was performing in. wrestling, football, basketball (which sometimes players knock each other down on the hard wood floor), and auto racing, even hockey too. if it's a sport, then concussions are a big concern.

I believe that is already the case. NASCAR would not allow a driver to compete if he wasn't medically cleared to do so. If Jr's doctor says he is when he really isn't then he essentially is putting his own neck on the line which I doubt he would do.

My personal opinion is I think there is more to this story. Jr makes comments after the Dega race and now he is sitting out 2 races. Not so sure about the concussion.

This is a punishment from Nascar. Where is the doctors quote that looked at him? How can you say it will be healed in 2 weeks? Really? This is a punishment handed down from nascar for what he said after last week. they cant publicly suspend the most popular driver and not upset a huge fan base! Come on people. Dont be the under educated and gulable sports fan that Nascar is saying you are by believing this!

No,..How do you pretend to know how critical it is other than what the driver told you...

Then if you force the driver into a corner what the hell do you think you'll get..

    Especially a driver who's ... job,.... ain't so secure..

Hendricks said it,..... Dale was ...honest ..enough to admit he might not be fit enough.for safety's sake..
