What is wrong with my iphone?

So I have the Iphone 5 and the app stora has been giving me problems. the search and featured section both ont ever load anything. anybody know what is wrong and how to fix it? this is my first apple device.

So as you can see in the pics, only the featured and search sections dont work. I have tried killing the app and restarting the phone, neither of which work. I would rather not do a factory reset on my phone if thats possible. But if I do, will my contacts and stuff be backed up on my Itunes? I lost over half of them when I switched phones, and I would rather not lose them all again 1 week later. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    hmm do a update for your cell phone and see if that works.if not take it to where you bought your cell phone.
