Why can't I sustain a pitch when I sing?
I'm a sophomore music major and I play clarinet. Over the past year or so I have been practicing singing to improve my tone, pitch, and overall music-making. I recently discovered that I cannot sing a stable pitch. I try to use a consistent air stream with good support, but when I sing long tones, the pitch varies greatly (about 15 cents flat and 15 cents sharp). I'm not moving anything. What could the problem be?

To sing on pitch requires breath control.
Good breath management skills are imperative if a singer hopes to be able to sound great and to sing with skill. Understanding how breath management either positively or negatively impacts various elements of the voice's quality may help to make good breath support seem more logical and advantageous.
The results of proper breathing technique may include better control over the breath and thus the quality of the voice's tone, more efficient use of the breath resulting in less breathiness or 'airyness' in the tone, the ability to sustain notes for considerably longer and to sing longer phrases, increased lung capacity, a natural (unforced) increase in volume, improved overall stamina or endurance, minimized tension in the chest, shoulders, neck and face, less pressure on the vocal folds, and better oxygenation of the entire body.

If you hit a pitcher along with your fingernail it's going to 'ring' at a specific frequency, referred to as its 'typical' frequency. The frequency has to do with how the glass is made, how heavy it's, how thick it's, and many others. It's honestly just a little glass 'bell'. When that frequency is performed through a speaker, or sung, the glass will vibrate in conjunction with it. This is referred to as 'sympathetic vibration'. You can do the equal factor with a guitar string. If you play that equal notice fairly loud on a different software after which give up out of the blue, you'll be able to listen that guitar string vibrating, gambling the notice. This is variety of like pushing any one on a swing. You have got to push on the equal 'frequency' the swing is swinging. You frequently wait till it comes again all of the method and supply the swing a push because it is going ahead. The swing additionally has a typical frequency. You have got to push at simply the correct time. If you simply driven at random occasions, the swing would not swing. Vibration works the equal method, with waves of air strain arriving simply on the correct time to push the glass or guitar string, so the vibration within the glass or string will get more potent and more potent. When the glass vibrates strongly ample it's going to holiday! I have certainly not noticeable anybody do that with simply their voice. It might take plenty of vigour! They did it on Mythbusters with audio system. I feel it might be viable to do it along with your voice in case you have been loud ample, and if the glass used to be fairly skinny. That's why they use crystal glasses, seeing that they are thinner and extra gentle.
