Does he like me? If so, how do I tell him I like him back?

Ok so there's this guy in my class that I really like, and has liked for awhile now. The thing is, I'm not sure if he likes me back. He doesn't know that I like him and I think he might be getting the hint that I have been flirting with him lately. Whenever he would be talking to his friends about something impressive he has done, and I'm there, he would look directly at me while he talks. I pretend I don't see him most of the time... Also we have this inside joke thing where he asked me to be his fake wife... A wife without liking each other. I have no idea if that meant he likes me or not. I heard his friends say that he liked me, but he completely denied it. He said if he really liked me already he would have asked me out. I am very confused here... He NEVER talks to me during school. We sometimes have very short conversation while switching classes and that is when he will smile a lot and look at me kindly.. But this rarely happens. Once, this other guy (which I am not interested in) made a list of the cutest girls in the class and I was number 1. He made a side comment that I was very "hot".. Apparently the guy I like was surprised and was like "what?! No!" he seemed kind of disgusted in a way where he is trying to be funny.. Do you know what I mean? Like he would laugh in disgustedly as if it were not true. This boy is giving me mixed messages! I try to get him to know that I like him without it being to obvious. Whenever we talk I would smile a lot and make a lot of eye contact with him. Do you think he likes me?!?! If he does, how do I tell him I like him back? I think he might just care what I think about him and that's all. What do you think? Please help!
