Question about raising ducks?
I was wondering the best way to get ducks in the creek in my back yard. I don't mind raising them but I want them to be independent once they are grown. There used to be ducks when I was growing up and I miss having them back there. I was thinking about raising a couple of them but I was scared that they wouldn't know how to survive on there own. I read that most ducks that are raised by humans don't learn how to fly so they wouldnt be able to fly away from preditors or find food on their own. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise. If it makes any difference im in california, in the vally

maybe you can go to the vets or wildlife centre and see if they have had any wild ducks come in injured and see if they would release them into your creek. we get ducks all the time in our creek i not no why but they come and go all the time. they are very cute and i can see why you would want them there. if ducks have been there before then they could come again, make sure it is safe and there is food and ducks should some.
i dont think it would be a great idea to raise some as ducks do remember people and my become to tame but they should still fly.
if you do plan to get some ducks to raise get more then one (about 5), dont handle them or let them see you as much. i dont think this it the best idea but it could work.

Perhaps you could plant some things that ducks like (use this site) to attract wild ducks to your area.
