If use a blu-ray software on laptop, could it play? I haven't test the toshiiba, but I use an external IBM blu-ray drive to connect my laptop with usb. And install iDeer blu-ray Player software on the laptop. When inserting the blu-ray disc, the software can detect any region blu-ray disc and make playback. This is my method to play blu-ray movies on laptop. And I search a helpful operation guide for you here: http://www.ideerapp.com/play-bluray-movies-on-pc.h... Hope can help you.

Blu ray for sure. It is going to be backward suitable to play DVD's too. Blu ray has significantly better best considering that its maximum resolution is 1,920x1,080 (1080p), even as DVD is confined to 720x480 (480p)
