no hard crust did all the iron and gold gravitate towards the center four thousand miles down? How many miles down to the first gold layers not collecting on the crust when it formed?

    That makes sense as the average density of the planet is 5.53 gm/ cm3 at the surface and increases the farther down you go. This says the heavier elements are at the core. At the same time there are iron and gold mines on the surface. Some of this may have been brought back up by the movement of the liquid mantle. Some may have been dropped by space rocks. I do not know who has all the answers to this question. I just brought up two possibilities.
