Once it becomes clear that you’re not in love with anybody, it’s easy to leave. And if nothing that person says or does reveals who they truly are to their partner, then you are in love with Nobody. You are in love with whatever story they told you, and it’s not the truth, which means all you love is a lie and a story. A relationship like this can only survive when the partner is also a liar - one who lies continually to themselves about what the other person is.

Yes.
He grew extremely suspicious and distrustful and left. Never to be seen of again. I prefer it that way, but I do still find myself missing him every now and then.
