safe alternative to rawhides?

I have 10 month old basset/beagle/lab/doxie mix (interesting I know - but she's one of the cutest dogs I've ever seen!) I used to give her rawhides, until we had a blockage scare & I found out how dangerous they are, so she will never get one again. I get her dentastix & some rawhide free bones, but she finishes them in minutes (jaws of life for a mouth) what can I get her that's rawhide free and will last her awhile? I've tried nylabones and she rips tiny pieces off and swallows them, and I don't think they're edible. also, anyone know of good toys for tough chewers? she ruins EVERY toy - even the kongs! I just get so nervous she'll swallow pieces so I want some toys for her that I won't have to be a nervous mess lol

She CAN'T get pieces off the Galileo Bone made by Nylabone. I promise. Also, when it comes to the Kong, you need to get the BLACK Kong, not the red ones or those other colored ones made for puppies. Raw meaty bones also last a long time but are a bit messy at first. You can ask your local butcher or grocery store to save some for you. I've also heard that deer antlers are good too, but I've never bought them so therefore I can't verify this.

Also, Nylabone makes "Big Chews" that are much larger than even the souper sized Nylabones. They have ones shaped like beef bones and turkey legs that my lab really likes, and she can't break off big chunks of it. Little bits will flake off, but that's fine. Were you getting Nylabone puppy bones or flexible ones by mistake perhaps? The durabones are pretty hard, and the bigger the size, the harder it will be for your dog to get off big pieces. My dog likes the many flavors of the Nylabone Durable Bones, Souper sized, the souper sized Nylabone Durachew Plus and the Nylabone Big Chew turkey leg and beef bone. Those are the most indistructible ones I've used but have heard great things about the Nylabone Galileo Bone as a previous answerer mentioned, as well.

Dentastix are really high in fat and will put on too much weight. Ever tried a "real" bone? Roasted cow bones are pretty good for gnawing and should keep her teeth in good condition. NEVER give chicken or lamb bones though; they splinter and could cause her to have really bad intestinal problems.

I agree with the first comment u got! Bully sticks rock! I have a boxer and my dad has a laberdoodle and they love them. Don't get plane flavor if u have a problem with smell. They're pretty stinky.

Bully sticks are great. They're digestible and they last much longer than rawhide.
