Goodwill or Salvation Army?
What do you guys recommend since I'm moving out? I would like to donate clothes, toys, DVD's, VHS movies, CD's, books, and texbooks.

Goodwill's nonprofit cause is putting people to work. The clothing that can't be sold is either donated to third world countries or sold to make textile carpets. http://www.goodwill.org/
Salvation Army's nonprofit organization helps with shelter & homelessness, drug &alcohol rehabilitation programs, and disaster relief. The Salvation Army also gives vouchers for clothing and items for people that need assistance, like abuse victims and no or low income persons. For the holidays, food, toys and clothing is given to needy families.
I give to both, probably more to Goodwill because it's closer, but the Salvation Army does very worthy work. Either can give you a tax deduction receipt. Now that you've raised this question, next time I'll make the drive to the Salvation Army. So today, my vote goes http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_usn_2.nsf/...
For future reference consider this community route. http://www.freecycle.org/
Good luck with your move!

I shop at secondhand stores. I love seeing what I can find. A lot of the good stuff has been picked through at places like Goodwill but there's plenty of other shops to visit. We just got a Plato's Closet down the street too.

I shop at Goodwill all the time, and other second hand stores. I like vintage clothing. I love the feel of clothes are that are already "broken in", plus I like the style. The coolest thing I ever got at one? Was a vintage clothing store back in Illinois called Tropicana and it has clothes from all eras from the 40's through the 80's. I got this cool, prison neon orange button up shirt with the little character from the game "Operation" (you know where you try to take out his bones and it buzzes?) yeah..THAT guy..ALL over it. It was the coolest shirt ever!
