i have 1979 el camino ss with 406 stroker i do noy know which tranmission to use a turbo 350 or a powerglide?

i want to drive it on the street and run it at the track

    Where would you ever find a Powerglide these days? You should definitely use the Turbo 350 transmission because it is a 3 speed vs a 2 speed tranny. With a big stroker motor you would want a high stall speed torque converter and a manual shift valve body if you are drag racing the thing. If it is a daily driver then a good shift kit will do the job but it will shift with a hard bang every time. That gets hard on the U-joints and differential eventually.

    Neither, use the TH400 - you'll be hard pressed to destroy that puppy.
