You could always wind the new ribbon onto the old spools, after removing the old ribbon of course. This should do the trick. Of course, if you'd like a new proper ribbon you would be able to buy one online quite easily, and relatively cheaply. A Smith-Corona would usually take a pretty standard ribbon, unless it is a "Corsair Deluxe", "Zephyr II", or a "Calypso" - these require a slightly unusual ribbon spool size, so I would recommend the rewinding trick if that's the model of typewriter you have.

I just inherited my great grandfather's Smith corona portable typewriter. I'm super excited about getting it working and just got the couple of keys that were broken fixed and now i need a new ribbon to actually type (it's probably 20-50yrs old). I found calculator ribbon at Office...

If my memory serves correctly you should be able to get quite a lot of pages from one. With the majority of ribbons the letter is punched in and it uses the top portion of the tape. Tthis means that you can turn the ribbon over and use the bottom for more usage of it.
