Can I use peppermint oil in baking?
Okay so I wanted to make homemade oreo's, and I found this teeny tiny bottle of peppermint oil in my cupboards, that I thought I could use for the filling (because I like the minty oreo's :). But would this make me sick? On the box it says that you can put a few drops in water for a refreshing drink, so I assume that it is edible..... but I just want to be sure. Thanks! :)

Yes, it is safe to use. It has a much more intense flavor than the regular peppermint extract that you would find at a grocery store, so you really only need to use a few drops in many cases.

Whole foods would be a good place to get it and yes, you would definitely want to use a peppermint/mint extract (they taste different, so make sure to pick the kind that you are looking for - peppermint would be the flavor of a typical peppermint patty, while "mint extract" is usually spearmint extract - like a spearmint gum would taste). Definitely do not use peppermint oil in food! You'll be ill. On the Creme De Menthe note...I don't know if your recipe calls for baking or boiling, but if it does, the alcohol would burn off in the cooking process. But good on ya to not drink while preggers! :-)

i think you can use just a drop or 2. but smell it first because it's oil and when oil is old it smells rancid.
i'd use peppermint extract instead.
