I am a massive fan of his and i was just wondering if he is known in america. He wrote a song for one direction so some people may have heard of him.

Think so..
He is very famous to Directioners as he gets along with them very well (especially Harry) and collaborated in Take Me Home.
He should be quite famous though because his songs have been played in Victoria's Secrets' ads and The Vampire Diaries episodes :D

Not yet, but he's done a song with Taylor Swift which will be released on 22nd Oct so his name should start spreading around America then, he deserves to be too.

Sort of. Ellen Degeneres recently had him on her Talk Show. He was very popular on that and he is rising up in the US! Hope this helped!
