How to clean skin oil off your guitar?

I bought a bass off of Craigslist (Epiphone EB-0) and it has skin oil on the neck and body. You can see it when you put it in the light like you can on most surfaces. I collect guitars and like to keep them clean and usually let no one touch them. :) So I was wondering if there is an easy way to clean my newly acquired bass? I thought of just wiping it down with a towel, maybe a little damp.

So if anyone has a good and easy way to clean the skin oil of the guitar without harming it or the finish it would be helpful!!

Thanks!!!

    Hey,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'skin' oil. I'm assuming you're talking about smudges and fingerprints as such on the finish of the guitar.

Don't use a damp towel. Water and oil don't mix. I'd suggest a micro fibre cloth. Those are the ones used to clean spectacles and will come with a guitar maintenance kit. A normal piece of cloth will cause fine scratches in the long run (ask anyone who cleans their glasses on their shirt) and you'll start to see them in a couple of months. In the time being you can use a towel (dry) or even a soft tissue but be very gentle with it.

If you collect guitars and want them looking in top condition then I'd suggest you invest in a guitar cleaning kit.
