Can my teacher really threaten to give me a zero on this?

So my orchestra teacher (who is pretty idiotic by the way) wants our entire class to go to a festival (bunch of orchestras from schools play and you get a plaque) but it's during school. On a Friday. Or more accurately named "the day I have like 4 or 5 major tests" my parents also don't want me to leave school for 5 and a half out of the 6 hours when most of it will be spent listening to her rant to us about stories and giving us a 3 hour 'lunch break'. I told her about 3 weeks ago I couldn't attend because I didn't have a parents permission to leave campus for this 'field trip' (she says it's more important than one) and that I will get a zero for the grade (it's 100 points and is labled as a 'test' so it's worth about 20% of my grade.) she told me there's no way to make it up. But I'm pretty sure if her favorite student said they had a hangnail she'd let them stay at school. Shouldn't she be forced to give another assignment for those of us whose parents don't want us missing major tests, or people who can't play because of an injury?

You should go to the principle about this. If you don't have your parents' permission then the teacher really shouldn't give you a zero. Maybe your parents could have a meeting with the teacher? if that doesnt work, talk to the principle about it.

I would recommend not bringing up that bit about the favorite student getting a hangnail, or everyone will think you're just being bratty. Best of luck!

It is obvious that your Orchestra Teacher ranks her course as more important than the major tests

    in core subjects.

    She needs an attitude adjustment.

Were other students in the class also threatened with a O if they did not attend the festival ?

Have your parents, the Orchestra teacher and a school official, with authority together and discuss the situation.

    What the hell?

    Thats absolutely ridiculous,

You need to get your parents onto that Teacher's case because seriously that is such a dumb reason to give you 0.

Honestly... I dont even know how she thinks that sounds in any way reasonable.

You should inform your parents to make sure that Teacher knows exactly how stupid a proposition she made you when threatening you with an imminent 0.

Your teacher shouldn't be forcing this on you and I think giving you a 0 is not right.

Have your parents send your teacher an email about the situation, or go talk to the dean or principal.

She should be liasing with the other teachers so there aren't important tests on the same day.

Since she hasn't, why don't you ask your other teachers if you can do the tests on another day?

I would complain to the principal and let their office deal with your teacher.
