How do I improve my art (Drawing) skills?

I am born an artist same goes to my family members as for i dont know for my parents but me and my sisters spend our time drawing, some how i have drawing and designing skills but they just get worse and ugly. when i see or hear about others art, i feel bad for myself i really want to improve it, now i cant even draw animes, or realistic things or even shade good. do you know any site or videos so i can improve my drawing skills? I really want to become an artist, i really want my future to also have art in it like become a doctor and an artist. please help... I'll appriciate if you answer to the question. Thank you

Update:

I also feel really bad and down seeing expert artists draw so well, and when i draw very nicely is when im bored and not in the mood plus when im alot thats when nobody's disturbing me and then in the middle of drawing, i fall asleep. i wasn't like that before even my small sisters are now better than me in drawing and they are 4 yrs, 6 yrs 8 or 9 years younger than me.

Thanks for the answer (: I think there's some kind of way you can tell, a punet square ? I learned it in like 5th grade but I forget how to do it lol.

Practice practice practice!!! You said you're already artistic, so that's good! My bf couldn't really draw but he started tattooing and practiced drawing a lot more and he's so good at it now! He has true talent. Try focusing on little details and make them perfect. That's how he improved his drawing skills and now he's a great tattoo artist !

Art is a skill, not a talent. It is also not inherited, it is influenced. Just because you were born into an artistic family, doesn't mean that you are necessarily influenced by this. For example, I am a very imaginative artist born into an extended family of physics and mathematics professors who can't imagine a cow if they'd never seen one.

Art can be learned by anyone with an average hand eye coordination. If you are talking about sketching what is already there, here are a few tips. Usually when someone asks a person to draw something in real life, they panic at the amount of detail in it and also the surroundings of the object. It looks really difficult to draw. However one must concentrate on a starting point and break every thing down into lines and shapes. E.g: when drawing a person, you can start at the forehead and determine roughly where the line of the eyebrows are and sketch a rough angle. If you draw one bit at a time, before you know it, an amazing artwork will be staring back at you.

Also, art is like any skill. It takes practice. Only about one percent talent is required to draw from real life, however it takes patience. Some people may pick it up faster but don't be deterred. Drawing from imagination, however is a whole new matter all together. That requires talent.

You need to ask yourself... do I enjoy art? Is it really worth it? Am I willing to sacrifice hours of my free time to do art because I want to? If you don't like art then don't bother. Art is all about passion and if you get impatient or ignore details then you shouldn't bother.

Here are 11 things I've done to improve my art skills:

    1) Make art! And it doesn't matter even if it's just doodling or sketching. You practice this way.

    2) Find artists and artworks that inspire you

    3) Keep a scrapbook with all your drawings in it so you can see how you've progressed over time

    4) Don't compare yourself to others because every artist is unique.

    5) Find your own style... what do you like to draw the most? Focus on that.

    6) Don't copy another artist's style because they're not yours

    7) Know when is the best time for you to make art... at night, alone, with/without music, on the floor, on the table, whatever

    8) The moment you feel inspired or in the mood, then start making art right away! (Don't wait)

    9) Take your time

    10) Have patience

    11) Stop thinking. Just let it flow, flow, flow.

Approach art with a positive and calm mind, and everything will eventually take shape.

I am a fine art student and i had the same feeling earlier this year, if you say you draw a lot then that is perfect, if you dont like it then you are normal haha !

But everyone is different, my entire class is an example of that because there are people who can draw realistically and others, like me, who produce abstract drawings. but on the other hand i do realistic paintings because i paint with a massive paintbrush and 4 meter canvases. what i am trying to say is we are all different, find your style first in how you draw, mix it with different scale drawings and different mediums personally i hate pencil but love charcoal.

try it and dont be so hard on yourself, produce work with an open mind and you will see

and another thing - those expert artists were exactly where you are today, Leonardo produced his famous works after the age of 30, practice !

well,I suggest that you try to draw something realistic by looking at a photograph or the real thing, instead of making stuff up at first, then just add your own twists on top of that to make it your own,and every time you mess up just try it over and over until you get it perfect, practice shading with a light source to make it more realistic,I suggest staring simple then going into detail, just use pencil lightly then add on color, with shading techniques,as for correct proportions,well...practice makes perfect, everyone struggles on that, trust me.:]
