Should somebody remind the Chancellor just who he works for?
A trivial matter, but...
"George Osborne has been forced to pay for an upgrade after sitting in a first class train carriage with a standard class ticket.
"An aide to Mr Osborne initially refused to pay the £160 supplement and said the chancellor did not want to move into standard class."

George doesn't care, he is going to put it on his expenses..i.e. your going to pay

Not really that trivial - coming as it does on the back of "pleb-gate"
Anyone else would have been forced to go to standard class when they refused to pay up. Why should he even begin to imagine that he can sit where he likes and not pay a fine when found out.
Not saying it was deliberate - but he should have either paid up straight away with a joke or and/or apology - or moved to standard with a joke/apology.
It was always going to be a story once it was done - he chose the worst response.

The truth at last - Osburn is a cheat who thought he could get away with it. This story shows too that he is a total snob, way out of touch with the Common People whom he claims to represent.
The man is out of touch with the real world and has no idea of the hardship and pain his belief in class superiority have caused to the lower paid sector, the poor, the weak and the downtrodden.
This is a man who in reality is the son of a shop keeper - a greedy Troyshite capitalist thief and liar.

Someone should. However at this point, I'm not convinced that politicians really consider themselves to be accountable to voters. After all, elections only come along every 5 years.
I am from the North East, and it's common knowledge up here that the Tory party is elitist and full of sleaze. However unfortunately, Labour now seem to be exactly the same.

As I understand it someone did. The ticket inspector, an employee of Virgin Trains. Osbourne and his aide were told by him to either stay in standard, or pay for an upgrade. He Paid...apparently.

Dont all politicians think they deserve something better after elected. The same thing here in the US with Congressmen. Senators think they are God and expect to be addressed that way the rest of their lives even after being voted out.

Sorry? I thought all Conservatives worked for the Daily Mail or the Daily Express. Their policies certainly show this, i.e. hit the poor to pay for the rich to have a coshdy life.

None of us can comment on this because I bet every one of you have tried to get something for nothing in your life at some point. He didn't do this intentionally, he got a later train, there was no room in standard so he sat in first class and when asked to stump up for the upgrade he did. Whats the big deal there are thousands who dodge rail fares all together, who cheat companies out of bill payments etc etc. If someone can say they are 100% squeeky clean and have never tried to get something for nothing, con a campany out of not paying for something or have never taken something that wasnt theirs then by all means comment.
