Why is photomatix pro make HDR images look like crap?
Why does photomatix pro make my poteintial HDR photos look horrid. they are noisy and have wierd pink and odd colour spots and muck all over them.
What's the best program to do them with?
I found that photoshop hdr look alot better, take a look.
hdr never look good apart from this, it normally comes out bitsy, noisy and ugly

Well i don't think that the image you posted is good enough. It consists of totally blown out sky which is considered to be on of the negative point in a photo. Photomatix is one of the best software present to create HDR images. Creating an HDR image is not an easy task. It requires perfect photo with no noise. You can check the description below for merging photo to HRD but using HDR Efex pro 2

Try posting a link to one that you did with Photomatix so we can have a look at it.
Also, post the information about your photo (number of images, exposure settings, etc).
I use Photomatix, and I get great results.
