Didn't wear retainer for 2 years.. now putting it back in hurts, help!?
Hi, I had braces for 5 years. As I got them off i swore to wear my retainer. I always wanted the pretty coloured braces, but my orthodontist refused to give them to me. So I asked for a coloured retainer with glitter & all things pretty. I didn't get it, my purple retainer request was a purple retainer case -.-
I was so happy with the result of my teeth that I forgot about it & wore the retainer every day & night. It was a fitted one, so it was virtually invisible. I was good until i had to brush my teeth & retainer after i ate. Every time i ate. It was embarassing at school, i hated the idea of brushing my teeth, nobody else did it! So i just put my retainer back in after i ate. Then I saw that food was getting in it, so I washed it with water, which did not work.
I decided i wanted the wire one with glitter & colour. To get this I had to not wear my retainer at all. I did this thing where i had it on when i was due ffor a check up. Until eventually i got a new one.
My old one didn't make me lisp at all. But the new one did. I put up with it for a while, I liked showing off the rainbow glittery bit. I don't know why now. Anywayy... lisp got too much for me. I wore it a few times, then forgot about it. i eventually just didn't wear it at all. i got it about 2 years ago. So its been a few times a year over these 2 years. Now putting it back in is incredibly painful, i suck icecubes to numb my mouth. It fits, but I have to adjust it a fair bit. Will my teeth get straight again if i wear it all the time? Thanks xx
I have had 3 retainers already. braces are certainly not an option for me. While my teeth have moved, it isn't really bad, but its still obvious. They haven't moved too much since iv gotten this retainer.

It hurts because your teeth have begun to set back the way they used to be. If they have gotten too far then the only way to fix it may be to get braces again (which I would never do). I would just get a professional opinion from a dentist. If they say that the retainer can fix it, go with that. I wouldn't go back to braces though.

If you can get the retainer in i think it will work But you should wear it for a few days. And Every night for a little while Because i doubt the ortho would give you a retainer knowing it won't work.
