A chord called D7, C7, or B7 is a chord containing the flatted seventh note one-half step. To obtain D7, the player simply forms a D major chord but drops the seventh note, which is C#, to a C note. To obtain a C7 first form a common C chord but drop the seventh note of B to Bb. To get a B7, play a common B chord and then drop the seventh note of Bb down to the A note. A chord called D5, C5, and B5 is simply a chord emphasizing the fifth note of the scale. The fifth note of D is an A; the fifth note of C5 is G, and the fifth note of B5 is an F#. You should consider picking up a chord book at your local music store and keep it as a handy reference.
