Internet slow, any ideas?

So recently my internet has been really slow, i'm at university and so using a dial up connection (wired). It was normally quite fast (could hit up to 3mb/s download) and open youtube, facebook instantly but now it takes a few minutes to open a page.

I have asked people who live next door and their internet is fine, so I guess it's my laptop.

I have Avast! (antivirus and firewall) and CCleaner, I've ran a registry etc.

Any ideas?

Update:

CCleaner isn't an anti-virus software etc, it just cleans your laptop.

Update 2:

Yeah I realised the error when I submitted it.

A registry is just a tool which scans for issues.

    1) You're not using dial-up

    2) You ran a registry? What the hell?

    3) Why are you using Avast?

right click on the system tray icon for the internet, click "open network and sharing center" then on the left click "change adapter settings" followed by DISABLING your local area connection, then enabling it again.

If that fails to work hold the Super (Windows) key and while holding it press R

now type cmd and press enter

    now type

    ipconfig /release

    and press enter

    now type

    ipconfig /renew

    and press enter

Wait a few moments. if it doesn't work now as it should then it's not an IP conflict. Your last resort is to do the following:

rightclick on the system tray icon for the internet connection again and this time choose "troubleshoot problems" and let it go through all the way. it may take a while.

After that if it still does not work as it should tell the IT department.

You may also want to go to http://speedtest.net/ and conduct a speed test. If the PING is larger than 300ms and/or the DOWNLOAD is less than 1.0 mention this to the IT department. If not just tell them about how pages take long to open (minutes)

To the idiot who posted before me: CCleaner is not a damn security program. How incompetent can you be? Also a firewall is always recommended under any circumstances along with an antivirus (when using Windows)

Check connections, cables, ports. Change DNS server.

Take your machine and plug it in next door to see if it's still slow. If it's fast the problem isn't with your machine.

To get to the bottom of the issue you'd need to examine your TCP/ IP stack to see what's actually connecting, then you'd need some sort of process monitor to check for software problems. Also all software and drivers should be up to date.

It's often easier to clone your hard drive then do a clean reinstall of windows.

    You could also try:

    http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php

It applies optimal settings for your connection.

Well first of all, I'm pretty sure that you don't need more than 1 security program fro you rcomputer.
