Loss of vcr dvd recorder?

Took a vcr dvd recorder into a local nationwide electronic store to be fixed cost was $150.00. Took it home and tried it out it still had problem took it back. Went back a few weeks later to see if fixed, was informed it was damaged in transit and could not be repaired and they offered me $90.00. This would be a loss to me of $40.00 and my machine. Can i demand they replace it or am i just out of luck. The original price was $399.99

They should definitely have to replace it. That's wasn't your fault. Considering it's a nationwide chain, too, not just some sketchy place. Try to solve it at the store level first, then call their customer service, then a letter/fax, etc. Just keep going. They'll give in eventually.
