What mental issue is this? How can I help!?
Now, this is a sort of sad story, and I have been with this girl helping her, but it's getting worse.
She has extreme anxiety and common attacks.
Depression
Her brain just doesn't work the same way (no doctors have been able to figure this out)
Dyslexia
Family troubles (bad ones)
OCD
Now, I'm gonna go into more detail. Her anxiety is terrible and she cannot go anywhere near a school classroom due to noise and the atmosphere, she does not like being underground either. Yesterday she broke down in tears because people were talking. This is pushing her to the edge because she can't understand this. She also suffers from dissociation (her brain "leaves" her body in order to "ignore" the pain) and this causes TERRIFYING experiences for her and leaves her very upset. The only way she has found she can get out of this is by hurting herself (cutting) and due to her OCD she has patterns of cuts on her legs, wrists, it's terrible.
Her depression is caused by many things, at a young age (which she still remembers from trauma) her father tried killing her whole family and left her mother badly depressed with anxiety too. Her mother cuts frequently and on one occasion was sent to two hospitals, one mental and one for her blood loss. She was under a coma (the girl was about 4 at this stage) and then spent a year in mental asylum, so she was living foster (which she also remembers).
Her brain doesn't work "correctly" due to her think patterns and how she reads (bit of dyslexia here too) she can not stop thinking about everything 24/7 which drives her nuts and she hates. Every word she sees she arranges them into numbers, and somehow, it ALWAYS equals 8. EG: school = 1, 2 ,1, 1, 1, 2 = 8 Now, the numbers don't always add up to 8, but somehow she sees them as they do. (This also prevents her from doing any math). She has trouble reading seeing as her head tries doing this as she reads.
The dyslexia is pretty bad (see above) and she will figure out the number for each letter due to how they are written. No doctors can understand this. Which means they cannot give her any medication due to the fact they have no idea what to give her.
The family troubles are worsening because her mother with her anxiety can hear her (Abbey) having EXTREMELY bad anxiety fits in her room. Abbey has told her mother that going in and trying to help does not help, but her mother's depression/anxiety cannot hold back, once Abbey "forced" her mother to cut after she walked in seeing Abbey cutting herself. Abbey sees this as her fault and hates herself for this.
Her OCD makes it extremely difficult to live as she tries organising everything, but due to her anxiety attacks her room is a complete mess, combined with the "scaryness" of her room with the OCD she just can't handle it and she just sits in the hallway all day/night.
This is causing her to think very suicidal and is very troubling for me as I really care for her (not like like). She cannot go on anti-depressants as her mother did and tried killing herself. Doctors have said the first month gives you extremely suicidal thoughts which is entirely what Abbey does not need.
Does anyone have any answers know what this is called? This would help out so greatly!!!
She is one of the strongest people I know, she can fool almost anyone and puts a "smile" on her face everyday. But I know the sadness inside.

One thing people should do is stay away from the tv. She should start playing ping pong, badminton, darts, ride a bike. She should stay away from sodas of any kind. She should avoid all processed foods. Have her test all water to make sure it is safe from fluoride and chlorine. She should eat fresh or frozen veggies and fruits. Some of her problem might be what she is eating and drinking. If I could I would have her ride a bike and play these sports I mentioned until exhausation daily. They are fun and would make her feel good. Ping pong and badminton you can learn to play and there is no long time to learn like tennis. These are games that can be played at home.

It sounds like anxiety disorder with possible panic attacks and agoraphobia. Combined with the OCD, depression and automutulation you mentioned. In my opinion it is very important that this girl gets professional help very soon. It's unlikely she will seek it herself (that's a big, scary step) so she'll need some guidance in that. You could make an appointment with her doctor and assist her to the consult. Best wishes

See another doctor not all anti depressants make you feel suicidal - She needs to see a counsellor or psychologist and to be actively working through these problems - dont get too involved or you will burn out and also wont be helpful to her and if she is suicidal she is a risk to herself and so should be taken into a psyche unit- Is no one working with this family?
